Our Mission
The Emergency Assistance Center's mission is to provide emergency food
assistance,
personal hygiene items and clothing to residents in need living in
Northern Summit County & adjoining communities.
Who Do We Help?
Most individuals asking for our assistance are dealing with problems
that are forcing them to seek outside help for the first time. These
problems include job loss, abandonment or death of a supporting family
member, and medical expenses, such as prescription costs, not covered by
insurance.
We want to help anyone who truly needs our assistance, but in order to
verify a need really exists, applicants are required to fill out a
detailed application before help is provided.
We do not charge for assistance, however we do encourage recipients to
become involved in our volunteer programs.
How Do People Hear About Us?
Most people are referred by local churches, schools, and social service
organizations such as the Summit County Job and Family Services, United
Way's "First Call For Help",
and the Western Reserve Outreach Center.
How Do We Help?
The Emergency Assistance Center primarily helps by providing short-term
emergency food assistance in the form of frozen meals and nonperishable
food items. We offer many other services as well.
How Are We Funded?
The Emergency Assistance Center is an independent, privately funded, not
for profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization. We rely on
local churches, schools and businesses to conduct food drives for us,
food suppliers to provide food supplies, and local residents and
businesses for the necessary financial support to purchase essential
non-donated items and to meet our operating expenses.
- We provide families with clothing and
personal hygiene items.
- We provide meal planning, nutritional
information, and suggestions as how to best utilize food supplies.
- We provide special foods to those with
specific dietary needs.
- We deliver food to those unable to visit our
centers.
- We provide names of organizations available
to help with utility payments, medical assistance and temporary
housing.
- We provide holiday baskets.
- We provide encouragement and positive
intervention.
